The Celtics have earned a slot in the 2010 Playoffs. Come watch them take on the best in the NBA. This could be the year the Celtics win it all.

The Celtics were the 2008 NBA champs defeating the Lakers 4-2 in the NBA Finals.

The Celtics beat the Piston in the 2008 semifinals of the NBA Playoffs 4-2.

The Boston Celtics are a professional basketball team based in Boston, Massachusetts. They play in the National Basketball Association (NBA). Their 16 NBA championships are the most of any NBA franchise.

During the 2006 season, Ainge traded Davis, Blount, Banks, Justin Reed, and two conditional second-round draft picks to the Minnesota Timberwolves for forward Wally Szczerbiak, centers Michael Olowokandi and Dwayne Jones, and a first-round pick. The team's direction is still skeptical. However, Ainge has stated more than once that he is committed to continuing the rebuilding process under team captain Paul Pierce, who played some of the best basketball of his career in 2006. The Celtics missed the 2006 playoffs with a 33-49 record.

The Boston Celtics continued to rebuild on the night of the 2006 NBA Draft. Danny Ainge traded the rights to the seventh overall pick Randy Foye, Dan Dickau and Raef LaFrentz to the Portland Trail Blazers in for Sebastian Telfair, Theo Ratliff, and a future second round pick. A subsequent trade with the Philadelphia 76ers for Allen Iverson was reported as a potential move beneficial to each team, although such a trade never eventuated.

As of 2006 the Celtics have never lost the seventh game of the NBA Finals. They are a perfect 7-0 in these games, winning in 1957, 1960, 1962, 1966, 1969, 1974, and 1984.

Franchise History

The Celtics started out in the Basketball Association of America in 1946 and became part of the NBA with the 1949 merger. The Celtics drafted the 1st African American player Chuck Cooper in 1950.

Coach Red Auerbach acquired Bob Cousy after the Chicago Stags folded.

Auerbach sent Ed Macauley and draft rights to Cliff Hagan in exchange for the St. Louis Hawks' first round draft pick, the second overall. The Celtics picked up Bill Russell with the Hawks' draft pick. He also picked up 1957 NBA Rookie of the Year, Tommy Heinsohn. Russell, Heinsohn, and Cousy formed a great core for the Celtics for more than ten years. Russell joined in mid season after playing in the Olympics but still made a major impact in 1957.

Russell led the Celtics to the NBA Finals in 1957 and defeated the Hawks in 7 games. This was the Celtics 1st NBA Championship. 1958 saw the Celtics back in the NBA Finals but they lost to the Hawks in 6 games. The Celtics picked up K.C. Jones and began their dynasty. The Celtics swept the Minneapolis Lakers in the 1959 NBA Finals which would be the 1st of an amazing 8 in a row. The Lakers met the Celtics in 6 of those NBA Finals. Eventually the Celtics would meet the Lakers 10 times in the Finals. The Celtics were the 1st NBA team to have an all African American starting lineup.

In 1966 Russell took over as player-coach and Auerbach retired. This made Russell the 1st African American coach in the NBA.
