The old 6.0 system judged 0-6 for technical merit & presentation. The ISU now uses International Judging System (IJS) which is mandatory since 2006. In formerly the system is known as the Code of Points.

Points are awarded for each element and the scores are totaled. Instant replay is utilized to verify elements. While a technical specialist establishes base score of the elements a panel of 12 judges determine the score for the execution of same. The Grade of Execution (GOE) is an integer from -3 to +3. GOE is then used with a value from the ISU rule table to compute another value. Of the 12 scores the computer randomly picks 9 and discards the high & low. The remaining 7 values are averaged. The average is added to the base value.
