Elvis Costello Tickets Declan Patrick Aloysius MacManus is Elvis Costello. He began in the London pub rock scene in the mid 1970s. He then associated himself with the punk rock and new wave scene, before establishing himself as a unique and original voice in the 1980s. Costello's first album for the band Stiff was My Aim Is True in 1977. He appeared on the cover in his trademark oversize glasses, bearing a striking resemblance to Buddy Holly. Costello's commercial success peaked in 1979 with the release of Armed Forces and the single "Oliver's Army". His 1981 album, Trust, had a more pop sound, while Imperial Bedroom in 1982 featured a much darker sound for Costello. In 1991 Costello released Mighty Like A Rose and In 1993 went classical with a highly acclaimed collaboration with the Brodsky Quartet on The Juliet Letters. He worked with Burt Bacharach in 1996 on a song called "God Give Me Strength" and released Painted From Memory in 1998.
