The Beach Boys have been performing for almost 50 years and have racked up sales records in several categories. They have been inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Vocal Group Hall of Fame.

Originally the group centered around Brian Wilson, his brothers, Carl and Dennis, their cousin Mike Love, and friend Al Jardine. David Marks was an early member and was inducted into the Hall of Fame along with the aforementioned 5 Beach Boys in 1988. They have the most top 40 hits of any rock band - 36. Add to that their 56 Hot 100 and their 4 number one singles and you have a band that can't possibly play all their hits in one sitting. This also makes them the number one selling American band.

There have been lots of membership changes over their career including the withdrawal of Brian Wilson and the death of his two brothers. Al Jardine left the band at one point while Love & Johnston toured as the Beach Boys.

In their formative years, the band relied heavily on Brian Wilson and he was considered the heart of the group.

Brian shared a room with his brothers and grew up to the music of the Four Freshmen.
