The Killers are a rock band from Las Vegas, Nevada, which formed in 2002. The band comprises Brandon Flowers (vocals, synthesizer), Dave Keuning (guitar), Mark Stoermer (bass), and Ronnie Vannucci Jr. (drums and vocals). The Killers released their debut album Hot Fuss in 2004. Their second album, Sam’s Town, is due out on October 2nd and 3rd in the UK and USA, respectively.

Much of The Killers’ music is based on British influences and on the music of the 1980s, particularly New Wave music. Brandon Flowers has also said in interviews that the larger than life sound of many of the band’s songs is due to the influence of living in Las Vegas, a city where everything is about flash and who can top whom. Despite their appreciation for the wave of post-punk bands that sprung up during the 80s, the band members are also avowed fans of David Bowie, Morrissey, Queen, and Saves The Day, and the influence of these bands can easily be felt in some of their songs. Brandon Flowers occasionally sings with a faux British accent.

The Killers will roll out another stretch of roadwork behind last year’s “Sam’s Town” when they launch a September romp through North America.
The Las Vegas natives kick things off with a Sept. 4 show at Red Rocks Amphitheatre in suburban Denver rescheduled from earlier this year, and will hit 12 cities in the US, Canada and Mexico before dropping down to the Southern Hemisphere for a brief Brazil outing.

Released last October, “Sam’s Town” is the follow-up to The Killers’ 2004 debut, “Hot Fuss.” The new disc features the cuts “When You Were Young” and “For Reasons Unknown.” According to a posting at the site, the group recently finished shooting the video for the album’s second single, “Read My Mind.”

The Killers made a name for themselves with “Hot Fuss,” which spawned the singles “Somebody Told Me,” “Mr. Brightside” and “All These Things I’ve Done.” The album is certified triple-platinum, signifying US shipment of 3 million copies.
