His flexibility, combined with his effortless melodic skills, dynamic charisma, and flashy stage shows made him the most popular recording artist of the ’70s.Being born on March 25th, 1947 in Pinner, England, Elton John is a rock music singer, composer, and a very talented pianist. He is one of the most successful solo artists of all times and was able to maintain his popularity by charting a Top 40 single every year from 1970 to 1996. He released “Honky Chateau” in 1972, which became his first American number one album with hit singles such as “Rocket Man” and “Honky Cat.””Honky Chateau” was the start of seven consecutive number one albums ranging from “Don’t Shoot Me I’m Only the Piano Player” (1973) to “Rock of the Westies.” (1975) All of these went platinum. Elton’s recorded version, “Candle in the Wind,” (1997), became the fastest selling single of all time, selling over 30 million copies worldwide. He was introduced into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1994, and knighted by Queen Elizabeth II on February 24, 1998.

Jimmy Buffett was born on Christmas Day 1946 in Pascagoula, Mississippi. He is best known for his “island escapism” lifestyle and music with hits such as “Margaritaville” and “Come Monday.” His fans are known as “Parrotheads” with the youngest memebers known as “Parakeets.” Buffett began his career as a country artist in the late 1960s and recorded his first album, Down to Earth, in 1970. It wasn’t long before he moved to Key West and began his beach lifestyle which he is now known for. Jimmy Buffett’s 1973 album, A White Sport Coat and a Pink Crustacean, was followed by Living and Dying in 3/4 Time in 1974, with its song of marital separation “Come Monday.” Buffett released Havana Daydreamin’ in 1976 and Changes in Latitudes, Changes in Attitudes in 1977. The latter featured the breakthrough hit song “Margaritaville”, which solidified his pop stardom. The 1992 box set retrospective, Boats, Beaches, Bars, and Ballads, became one of the best-selling box sets ever and was followed in 1994 by Fruitcakes, which was one of his fastest selling album to date.
