Bonnie Raitt
, born in Burbank, California, on November 8, 1949, was the daughter of Broadway star John Raitt. She picked up the guitar at age 12 and developed an ear for blues. In 1967 Raitt put music aside and entered Harvard’s Radcliffe College, majoring in African Studies. She soon met Dick Waterman, an important figure in the blues revival of the 1960′s, who was giving an interview at WHRB, Harvard’s college radio station. Her blues career was launched. She gained notoriety in 1970 and signed with Warner Bros. in 1971, who soon released her eponymously titled debut. Her second and third albums, Give It Up in 1972 and Takin’ My Time in1973, met with critical acclaim although the sales did not show it, a pattern that would go on until her tenth album released in 1989, Nick of Time. It went to the top of the U.S. charts and won three Grammy Awards. Bonnie Raitt received her fourth Grammy for her duet “In the Mood” with John Lee Hooker on his album “The Healer”.
